Kid's Cognitive Abilities

This theory by Piaget's reminds me of my seven year old cousin. Watching the videos of the children trying to fix the blocks from shortest to tallest reminded me of one time when we were helping my uncle build a bookcase. There were all different types and lengths of screws and she never gave the right one. She always gave the second to longest or shortest. I really thought she was kidding, and she got upset that me and my uncle were laughing.

I didn't even think of this again until watching that video. I honestly didn't even know this happened to other kids. It's so crazy how much the generations have changed over time. I might only be 18, but the times have truly changed between my generation from generations now. I'm amazed by how hard simple tasks when I was little are so hard now to kids.

  1. Yeah, it is fun to read about Lifespan development and then watch a kid around that age struggle through some of the developmental tasks. As a psychologist, I am always testing my nieces and nephews to see if they are ahead or behind the norm for their ages.
